I learned about dryer balls almost 6 years ago. My first purchase was plastic ones which worked well but cracked after 2 years. Instead of replacing them with more plastic ones and follow that same path I decided to do some research on different kinds of dryer balls.
Hold up. Wait a minute. Many of you are probably asking, "What the hell are dryer balls?" Well they are balls that you throw in your dryer in place of dryer sheets or fabric softener. They fluff and soften your laundry and slightly speed up the drying time. The benefit of these is the money saving (no more dryer sheets for me EVER) and the environmental impact. OH and if you like good smelling clothes like me then you can also add a few drops of essential oils onto the dryer balls before the cycle and your clothes will gain a delicious smell (or in my case a relaxing Lavender).
Ok so now back to my story. While researching different types of dryer balls a stumbled upon a blog that would soon become a fav. Crunchy Betty had an easy DIY for felted wool dryer balls. I naturally needed to try this myself. These babies were legit! I have used the same 3 wool balls for 4 years. I became such a fan of these that I immediately started making more to gift to friends and eventually sell them. Most people in Sweden haven't heard of them so it was exciting to be able to teach them something new. For the past year I have been selling these for practically no profit because it has been so much fun to spread the word. Buy your wool for the craft here. Not ready to make them yourself? That's ok. You can also buy readymade ones here.
Secret tip: Save your dryer lint or tear up some old rags or clothes to be the core?center of your balls so you dont waste your beautiful wool on the hidden inside.
Enjoy your crafting!
