Natural hair dye

In my quest for putting as little chemicals and waste into the ground I stopped dying my hair or about 6 years. During those 6 years I have really missed my red locks. I've always felt like red hair suited me best but I was torn between the red locks or my sustainability. So I finally broke down and decided to by natural hemp hair dye from Lush. It gave me a great red color but there are a few things I wanted to clarify to others who are considering this option. I'm pleased with the results and will continue to use this option but definitely with a different approach next time around.
1. It is not permanent. It will slowly wash out over a few months and you will need to dye it again.
2. Since it starts as a solid brick, it needs to be mixed with hot water to form a wet sand consistency. This is still a bit hard to rub into your hair. Chunks of it like to fall off constantly.
3. Do it where you can make a mess. I applied it in front of my bathroom sink and so many pieces flew all over the bathroom (how did that even happen?!) that the entire bathroom looked like someone had an explosion and didn't make it to the toilet. Yes. Gross. It washes off easily but its just a mess that can be avoided if done, say, in the shower.

4. It has to sit in your hair for hours. It's not as quick as regular hair dye. On the positive side, it has tons of great oils in the mix and having those on your hair for hours makes you hair really shine once its washed out.
5. I hope you have a removable shower head to rinse the shower when you have finished rinsing your hair. It also tends to fly everywhere when rinsing so if you don't have a flexible shower head then grab a rag to bring with you into the shower.
This wasn't written to deter you from trying it out. I simply wanted to teach you about the mistakes I made so you can have a better first experience. I love my red and am happy to continue using Lush hemp dyes.
