A spa experience beyond the norm

Yesterday I took part in a 4 hour massage/facial/therapy session at Lush Spa in Philadelphia. The reason I added therapy session to the description was because this was not your typical spa day. Lush is the

all natural brand you know and love and they have Spas attached to some of their stores. Not many though. Only Philly and NYC in NA have them. The package I got was called "The Planets." It was inspired by the music piece The Plants by Gustav Holst. Lush hired in house composers to mix the original Planets music with homemade pieces to perfectly fit the spa treatment. Pretty cool. Another cool part of the experience is that the spa treatment uses special products only used in the spa and they give you those products after they have used them on you.

Who is this for: People at a turning point in their life or looking for answers or direction. Going through something big like divorce, loss of job, don't know what you want to do with your life, these types of things.

Who is this NOT for: People just looking to relax. Wanting a typical massage and facial.

Ok so now onto why I specified above. My treatment was split into 3 phases. Each phase represents that past, present and future. Since it is called "The Planets" you pick a planet which will the the focus of you practice. Each planet represents a word like empathy, strength, release.

Step 1: The Past

We begin with an hour and a half massage. As the masseur finds a knot she explains why that not is there in relation to the part of the body it lies. For example: The left side of your body includes issues related to creativity and the right side of the body includes issues related to logic. Even deeper, a specific location on each side can relate to feelings like money is never enough, or you feel like you are speaking but nobody is listening. As you reach each of these you are encouraged to talk through the know and each issue. By talking it through with the masseur you are releasing the tension and moving on from the past issue that is causing this tension.

Step 2: Present

This includes a hand and arm massage and some tea. Once the massage is finished you get a palm reading to teach you about yourself. I learned I was water hands (among other things).

Step 3: The future

This was the facial portion of the treatment. It began with deep breathing and letting go of the past with each exhale. The composed music also changes to music with lyrics including positive future affirmations.

Its a pricey treatment and if you aren't looking for guidance then I think you will not find the value in this price tag. Tina was my masseur and was amazing. I would recommend that anyone heading to Philly book her for a spa treatment.
